I immigrated to Canada from Vietnam with my family when I was only 6 years old. Public school served me well and I graduated from the UofC with a BSc in Chemistry. I taught English overseas for over 8 years in public schools on the JET and EPIK programs in Japan and South Korea, where I was part assistant teacher, part ambassador. Now, I have children of my own. Their education is my highest priority. My oldest went to a charter school and while the school and staff was great, the fit with my child was not. We have been homeschooling for 4 years now. But not everyone has the privilege of forgoing one income to homeschool two children and ironically, having gone that route, I now believe that public schools have much to offer our children, but only if it changes.
